Lead Generation in Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth
Lead generation in Australia, city by city: business areas in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, +61 numbers, the rules for commercial electronic messages, and a B2B cold email example for ISO certification.

Lead generation in Australia works city by city and area by area: split Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth into its business districts and suburbs, search each one for your type of business, and collect the phone number and email each company publishes. Australian cities are spread out, so the suburb list is the real map. This guide gives the areas for five cities, shows where Australian businesses publish contact details, works through the example of a consultancy selling ISO certification support in Melbourne, with a short cold email, and sets out the rules for commercial electronic messages and the Do Not Call Register.
The short answer
- Choose one business type and one city, then list its business areas and industrial suburbs.
- Search each area and collect the published phone, email, website and ABN.
- Store numbers as +61 without the leading zero, and remove duplicates.
- Write a short, direct message that names the suburb and gives a specific reason for writing.
- Follow Australia's rules for commercial electronic messages (consent, identification, unsubscribe) and check the Do Not Call Register before marketing calls.
Which areas should you search in each Australian city?
| City | Areas to search | What you find there |
|---|---|---|
| Sydney | CBD, Parramatta, North Sydney, Chatswood, Macquarie Park, Alexandria | Banks, law and consulting firms in the CBD; government and corporate offices in Parramatta; insurers, agencies and tech in North Sydney and Chatswood; light industry in Alexandria |
| Melbourne | CBD, Southbank, Richmond, Dandenong, Docklands, Port Melbourne | Professional firms and head offices in the CBD and Docklands; agencies and tech in Richmond; manufacturers and building suppliers in Dandenong; logistics in Port Melbourne |
| Brisbane | CBD, Fortitude Valley, South Brisbane, Eagle Farm | Professional firms and mining head offices in the CBD; creative, tech and hospitality in Fortitude Valley; industrial firms in Eagle Farm |
| Perth | CBD, Osborne Park, West Perth, Welshpool, Malaga | Mining and engineering offices in the CBD and West Perth; services and trades in Osborne Park; industrial in Welshpool and Malaga |
| Adelaide | CBD, North Adelaide, Regency Park | Professional firms and health in the CBD; manufacturing and wholesale in Regency Park |
Australian addresses name the suburb, the state and a four-digit postcode, and the suburb is how locals describe where a business is, so use suburbs as your areas.
Where do Australian businesses publish contact details?
- The ABN register. Every trading business has an Australian Business Number, and the public register shows the entity name, the type (company, sole trader, partnership or trust), its state and postcode, and whether it is registered for GST. It shows no phone or email.
- Business listings. Firms with a shopfront, an office or a service area have a listing with a phone number, hours and a website link.
- The company website. The contact page shows a landline, often a mobile for the owner of a trade business, and a general email. The footer often shows the ABN.
- LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram. Professional firms keep LinkedIn pages; trades, retail, hospitality and beauty businesses publish a mobile on Facebook or Instagram.
Collect only what the business publishes itself, and record the ABN: it confirms the trading entity and separates two firms with the same name.
Lead generation in Australia, step by step
- Write the target. For example: "Manufacturers and building contractors in Melbourne's south-east with a website and at least five staff."
- List the suburbs. From the table, then add neighbours: for Dandenong, add Keysborough, Hallam and Bayswater.
- Search each suburb. Record the name, address, phone, website, rating and reviews.
- Open the website and social pages. Copy the email, the ABN and any extra mobiles; note which page each came from.
- Format the numbers. Australian numbers have ten digits with a leading 0. Landlines start with an area code (02 Sydney, 03 Melbourne, 07 Brisbane, 08 Perth and Adelaide), mobiles with 04. Drop the 0 and add +61, so 0412 345 678 becomes +61 412 345 678.
- Remove duplicates. Match on phone, website and ABN; a builder with a yard in Dandenong and an office in Richmond is one business.
- Qualify and batch. Keep businesses with a website and an email for the email campaign; put the rest on a call list.
Worked example: ISO certification support for Melbourne manufacturers and builders
Say you run a consultancy that helps companies get and keep ISO certification: ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for health and safety. Your buyers are manufacturers who supply larger companies and builders who bid for government or commercial contracts, because those contracts often ask for certification.
- Areas. Dandenong, Keysborough, Hallam, Bayswater and Campbellfield for manufacturers; Richmond, Port Melbourne, the CBD and Docklands for builders' offices.
- Filter. Keep firms with a website (a firm with no website rarely bids for contracts that need ISO) and with twenty or more reviews, which suggests a firm of some size.
- Qualify. Open each website and note whether it mentions certification already (a renewal prospect) or not (a first-time prospect).
- Write. One email to the published address, naming the suburb and the kind of contract they bid for.
A short B2B cold email template for ISO certification in Australia:
Subject: ISO 9001 for [Company] before the next tender
Hi [First name],
I noticed [Company] supplies fabricated steel to commercial builders from Dandenong, and many of those builders now ask their suppliers for ISO 9001.
We help manufacturers in Melbourne's south-east get certified in a few months, with the paperwork done by us and the audit booked for you.
Would a 15-minute call next week suit, to see whether it is worth it for your next tender?
[Your name], [Consultancy], [Phone], [Suburb]
Reply "no thanks" if this is not relevant and I will not write again.

Time zones and timing in Australia
Australia has three main time zones: Eastern (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane), Central (Adelaide) and Western (Perth). New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia move their clocks in summer; Queensland and Western Australia do not, so Brisbane and Sydney are an hour apart from October to April.
- From the UK. Sydney is nine to eleven hours ahead of London, so a message sent in the London morning is read the next Sydney morning.
- From the Gulf. Sydney is six or seven hours ahead of Dubai.
- Holidays. Christmas to late January is the summer break, and many firms run on skeleton staff; Easter (four days), Anzac Day (25 April) and the state holidays are also quiet. The financial year ends on 30 June, so late June is busy and early July is a good time for new conversations.
- Style. Australians prefer plain, friendly and direct. First names from the start, no formal titles, and a clear question.
What rules apply? Commercial messages and the Do Not Call Register
- Australia's rules for commercial electronic messages cover email, text and instant messages with a commercial purpose. You need consent to send one. Consent can be express or inferred, and inferred consent includes a business email that a company has conspicuously published, where the message relates to that business's role or function and the published address does not say it refuses marketing. Every message must identify you accurately, give a way to contact you, and include a working unsubscribe that you act on within a few days.
- The Do Not Call Register covers telemarketing calls and marketing faxes. Numbers on it must not receive marketing calls unless there is consent. Some business numbers can be registered too, so check numbers before a calling campaign and keep your own do-not-call list.
This is general information, not legal advice; check the current rules for the country you send to.
Where Rovero fits
Rovero is B2B lead generation software for Windows. Type a business type in your own words and a city such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth, and it shows the city's suburbs and districts; tick the ones you want and it searches them one by one.
For each business it goes through the website's homepage, contact and about pages and the Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages, keeping up to three emails and five extra mobile numbers the business publishes, with nothing guessed. Smart filters keep only firms with a website, an email or a minimum number of reviews, which is how the ISO consultancy above would narrow its list. The marketing-ready lists carry +61 on every mobile and leave landlines out of the WhatsApp list.
One honest limit: Rovero does not read the ABN register or check the Do Not Call Register; those two checks stay with you.
Frequently asked questions
How do I start lead generation in Australia?
Pick one business type and one city, list the suburbs where that type clusters, and search each suburb for businesses, collecting the published phone, email, website and ABN. Store numbers as +61 without the leading 0, remove duplicates, and write a short message that names the suburb. Follow the rules for commercial electronic messages.
Is there a B2B cold email template for ISO certification in Australia?
Yes; the example above fits a consultancy writing to manufacturers and builders. The structure is one true observation about the company, one sentence on what you do for firms like theirs, one question with a time, and an unsubscribe line. Change the standard (ISO 9001, 14001 or 45001) to match the buyer's likely contract requirement.
Can I send cold emails to Australian businesses?
A business email that the company has conspicuously published, used for a message relevant to its business, falls under inferred consent in Australia's rules, as long as the address carries no note refusing marketing. Identify yourself and include a working unsubscribe. This is general information, not legal advice.
Where can I find B2B leads in Australia for free?
The ABN register, public business listings, company websites and LinkedIn pages, searched suburb by suburb. It takes time, but each row has a source you can name.
