Lead Generation in India: Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Beyond
Lead generation in India, city by city: the business areas of Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad, where firms publish contact details, WhatsApp replies and the rules.

Lead generation in India works best when you treat each big city as a set of business areas and search them one at a time, collecting the phone number, WhatsApp number and email each company publishes. A single search for "Mumbai" shows a few well-known names; Andheri, Bandra Kurla Complex, Fort and Lower Parel each hold many more. This guide covers the business areas of Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bangalore and four other cities, where Indian businesses publish their contact details, why WhatsApp is the reply channel to expect, and the rules in plain words.
The short answer
- Pick one business type and one city, then list its business areas.
- Search each area for businesses of that type, and collect the details each one publishes.
- Store mobiles as +91 and ten digits, and keep landlines in a separate column.
- Expect replies on WhatsApp, so keep a WhatsApp number for each lead.
- Follow the DPDP Act and the TRAI rules on commercial messages, and check the Do Not Disturb list before SMS or calls.
Why Indian cities need an area-by-area search
Indian cities are dense and spread out at the same time. Mumbai stretches a long way from Colaba in the south to the suburbs in the north, and business life sits in distinct clusters along the way. Delhi is really Delhi NCR, the National Capital Region, which includes Gurugram and Noida as separate cities with their own business districts. Bangalore's companies sit in pockets such as Koramangala, Whitefield and Indiranagar that can be an hour apart in traffic.
Search a whole city and you get the names that show first; search one area and you get the firms that actually operate there, including those in business towers and industrial estates.

Where do Indian businesses publish contact details?
- Business listings. Most firms with a shopfront or an office have a listing with a phone number, and many show a WhatsApp number and an email.
- The company website. The contact page usually lists a landline, one or two mobiles and an email; the footer often repeats the email.
- Trade directories. Manufacturers and wholesalers list their products and a contact person in trade directories; the mobile number there is often the owner's.
- Social pages. Facebook and Instagram pages for retail, food and beauty businesses frequently show a WhatsApp number as the main contact. LinkedIn company pages name the founders of services and tech firms.
- The GST number. Registered businesses print their GST number on invoices and often on their website. It confirms a registered, trading business but gives no contact details.
Collect only what a business publishes itself; a guessed email bounces and a guessed mobile is simply a wrong number.
Lead generation in India, step by step
- Write the target in one line. For example: "Packaging suppliers to food manufacturers in Mumbai with a website."
- List the areas. From the table above, starting where your buyers cluster.
- Search each area. Record every business of your type, with its address, phone numbers, website and rating.
- Open the website and social pages. Copy the email, the WhatsApp number and any extra mobiles, noting the page each came from.
- Format the numbers. Indian mobiles have ten digits starting with 6, 7, 8 or 9; store them as +91 followed by the ten digits. Landlines carry a city code (022 for Mumbai, 011 for Delhi, 080 for Bangalore); keep them in a separate column, because WhatsApp messages cannot reach them.
- Remove duplicates. Chains and firms with several branches appear in many areas; match on phone, website and email.
- Qualify and batch. Sort by rating, reviews and the presence of a website and email, then work in batches of 50 to 100 leads.
Say you sell packaging to food manufacturers in Mumbai. Searching Andheri East, Lower Parel and the industrial estates of Navi Mumbai could give you 400 manufacturers. Perhaps 250 publish an email and nearly all publish a mobile. Your email list has 250 rows, your WhatsApp list has close to 400, and every row carries an area you can mention in the first line.
Why WhatsApp is the reply channel in India
In India, WhatsApp is where business conversations happen. An owner who ignores an email will often reply to a short WhatsApp message within the hour, and many businesses publish a WhatsApp number before they publish an email. So treat email as the introduction and WhatsApp as the conversation: send the email first, then follow up on WhatsApp with a short message that refers to it. Our guide to WhatsApp marketing in India covers the pace, the message style and the rules for that channel.
Rules for commercial messages in India
Two sets of rules matter.
- The Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (DPDP Act) covers personal data, including a named person's email or mobile number. Business contact details that a company publishes are a lighter case than a private person's data, but keep a record of where each detail came from, use it only for that purpose, and delete it on request.
- TRAI rules on commercial messages cover SMS and voice calls. Bulk commercial SMS must go through registered senders with registered templates, and numbers on the Do Not Disturb (DND) list must not receive promotional SMS or calls. Check numbers against DND before any SMS or telemarketing campaign.
Email and WhatsApp messages to a business's published contact are a different channel from SMS, but the same habits apply: say who you are, give a way to opt out, and stop when asked.
This is general information, not legal advice; check the current rules for the country you send to.
Do you need a lead generation company in India?
A lead generation company in India sells you either a list or a service: they build the list, run the outreach and pass you the replies. That suits a company with no sales staff. It suits less well when you sell something specialised, because the agency's callers rarely know your product, and the list is usually not yours to keep.
The middle path is to build the list yourself with software, then do the outreach in-house or hand the list to a small calling team. You keep the data and you learn which areas and trades reply. Our comparison of a lead generation agency versus software weighs the two in detail.
Where Rovero fits
Rovero is B2B lead generation software for Windows. You type a business type in your own words and a city such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore or Pune. It shows the city's areas and localities, you tick the ones you want, and it searches them one by one.
Tower Dig finds the business towers, complexes and malls in each area and searches inside them, which matters in Nehru Place, BKC and Whitefield, where many firms share one building. For each business, Rovero checks the website's homepage, contact and about pages and the Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages, and keeps up to three emails and five extra mobile numbers that the business publishes. The WhatsApp list it exports carries +91 on every number and leaves landlines out.
One honest limit: Rovero finds businesses with a public listing or website, so a small workshop that trades only by word of mouth and has neither will not appear.
Frequently asked questions
How does lead generation in India differ from other countries?
The method is the same: one business type, one city, one area at a time. The differences are that cities are larger and need more areas, WhatsApp numbers are published more often than emails, and replies come on WhatsApp. Plan for that from the start.
How do I get business leads in Mumbai?
List the areas where your buyers sit (Andheri, Bandra Kurla Complex, Fort, Lower Parel, Nariman Point, Powai and the industrial estates), search your business type in each one, and collect the contact details each firm publishes. Store mobiles in +91 format and remove duplicates by phone and website.
What are B2B leads in India usually like?
Most are small and medium firms with a listing, a website and a mobile number that reaches the owner or a manager. Larger companies in Gurugram, BKC or Whitefield publish a general email and a reception line.
Is it legal to email Indian businesses without consent?
There is no single rule that forbids an email to a published business address, but the DPDP Act covers personal data and the TRAI rules cover SMS and calls, and both expect you to identify yourself and stop when asked. Check numbers against the DND list before SMS or calls. This is general information, not legal advice.
