WhatsApp Poll for Business: 15 Ideas, Steps and Examples
How to use a WhatsApp poll for business, with 15 poll ideas for feedback, bookings and product choices, simple setup steps and what to do with the results.

A WhatsApp poll for business is the quickest way to ask a customer one question and get a one-tap answer: which day suits them for delivery, which product they prefer, how their visit went. This guide gives you 15 WhatsApp poll ideas you can copy, shows how to create a poll in the app and in a campaign, explains how to write a question people actually answer, and covers what to do with the results.
The short answer
- A WhatsApp poll is one question with a set of answer options; at the time of writing (October 2026) the app allows up to 12 options.
- People answer with one tap, and you see who chose what.
- Use a poll for one decision at a time: a delivery day, a menu choice, a quick rating.
- Keep the question short, the options clear and different, and always include a "not now" answer.
- Send polls to people who know you, and act on the answers so the next poll gets answered too.
Why a poll works better than "reply 1, 2 or 3"
Before polls, businesses asked people to reply with a number or a word. That works for ten people. For 300 people you get "2?", "the second one", "Tuesday maybe", typos and voice notes, and someone has to read every reply by hand.
A poll solves this:
- One tap to answer. No typing, no thinking about the format.
- Answers are counted for you. You see the totals and who picked each option.
- It works in any language. Write the question and options in English or Arabic, whichever your customers use.
- It starts a conversation. Someone who picks "Call me" has told you exactly what to do next.
15 WhatsApp poll ideas for business
| Goal | Poll question | Answer options |
|---|---|---|
| Book a delivery slot | Which day suits you for delivery? | Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Call me |
| Feedback after a visit | How was your visit today? | Very good / Good / Could be better |
| New product choice | Which flavour should we add next? | Mango / Pistachio / Saffron |
| Event reply | Will you join our open day on Saturday? | Yes / Maybe / Not this time |
| Restock alert | Want a message when size 42 is back? | Yes please / No thanks |
| Call time | When is best for your follow-up call? | Morning / Afternoon / Evening |
| Message preference | What would you like from us? | New arrivals / Offers only / Nothing for now |
| Language | Which language do you prefer? | English / Arabic |
| Renewal | Shall we renew your service contract? | Yes / Call me first / No |
| B2B reorder | Do you need a top-up order this week? | Yes / Next week / Not now |
| Seasonal menu | Which iftar box would you order? | Classic / Family / Vegetarian |
| Recommendation | Would you recommend us to a friend? | Yes / Maybe / Not yet |
| Opening hours | Would you visit us after 10 pm? | Yes / Sometimes / No |
| Survey check | Can we ask you 3 quick questions? | Yes / Not now |
| Staying in touch | Want our weekly offers on WhatsApp? | Yes / No |
Two of these need extra care. When someone picks "Nothing for now" on the preference poll or "No" on the staying-in-touch poll, treat that as a request to stop marketing messages, and leave them out of future campaigns.
How to create a WhatsApp poll
In the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app
- Open the chat or group where you want the poll.
- Tap the attachment icon (the paperclip on Android, the plus sign on iPhone).
- Choose Poll.
- Type the question and add the options.
- Choose whether people may pick more than one answer.
- Send.
Menu names move between app versions, so if you cannot find Poll, update the app first. This suits one chat or one group. It is slow if you want to ask 400 customers one by one.
In a campaign
- Pick the group of contacts who should get the poll, for example customers who ordered in the last month.
- Choose a poll as the message type, write the question and add between 2 and 12 answers.
- Preview it and send a test to yourself.
- Choose your numbers and a sending time, then start or schedule it.
- Watch the results as votes come in, and reply to the people who asked for a call.
How to write a poll question people answer
- One question, one idea. "Which day and time suit you?" is two questions. Ask the day first.
- Options that do not overlap. "Morning" and "Before 1 pm" overlap; "Morning" and "Afternoon" do not.
- Always a way out. "Not now", "Call me" or "No thanks" gives people an honest answer instead of silence.
- Let the question carry the context. "Your filter is due for a change. Which day suits our technician?" works better than "Choose a day".
- Use your customer's language. Send Arabic polls to Arabic-speaking customers and English polls to English-speaking ones, not one poll in both.
- Do not poll too often. One poll a month is plenty for most businesses. More than that starts to feel like work for the customer.
What to do with the poll results
The poll itself is only half the job. People who answer expect something to happen.
- Act within a day. If 40 people chose Tuesday delivery, confirm Tuesday to each of them.
- Reply in person to anyone who picked "Call me" or "Could be better". These are the most useful answers you will get.
- Tag people by their answer so the next campaign only goes to those who asked for it, such as "prefers Arabic" or "wants restock alerts".
- Export the results and keep them with the campaign, so you can compare next time.
A worked example: you send a feedback poll to 300 recent customers. If 1 in 5 answers, that is 60 answers, and if 6 of those choose "Could be better", you have six conversations that can keep six customers.
Region notes: Gulf, UK and USA
In the Gulf, polls in Arabic work just as well as polls in English, and short answer options are easier to read on a phone. Plan around the weekend: Saturday and Sunday in the UAE since 2022, Friday and Saturday in Saudi Arabia. During Ramadan, the evening after iftar is when many people catch up on messages. In the UK and the USA, a feedback poll the day after a purchase or visit fits the normal Monday to Friday rhythm.
Good practice and local rules
A poll is still a message, and the same habits apply. WhatsApp is built for conversations people welcome, and it can limit accounts that many people block or report, so send polls to people who know your business and expect to hear from you. In the UAE, the TDRA rules and the PDPL expect clear consent for marketing messages, a named sender and a free opt-out. Saudi Arabia's PDPL requires prior consent and an easy way to withdraw it. In the UK, PECR treats WhatsApp messages like e-mail, and in the USA you should get written consent before automated marketing messages to phones. This is general information, not legal advice; check the current rules for the country you send to.
How Nitro sends polls
Nitro is WhatsApp campaign software for Windows that sends through your own WhatsApp numbers, linked with Linked devices the same way WhatsApp Web works. In Nitro, a poll is one of the message types, with 2 to 12 answers, and it does the job that buttons and list messages do in other kinds of WhatsApp messaging. The live view shows poll results as they arrive, and the inbox collects poll votes, replies and opt-outs from all your numbers in one place, so you can answer each person from the number they know. If someone replies STOP instead of voting, Nitro adds them to the opt-out list with a short confirmation; START adds them back. Our WhatsApp marketing tips cover opt-outs and replies in more detail.
Frequently asked questions
Can a business send WhatsApp polls to customers?
Yes. Polls work in the WhatsApp Business app and in campaign software that sends through a linked device. Send them to customers who know you and expect to hear from you.
How many options can a WhatsApp poll have?
At the time of writing, up to 12 options per poll. In practice, two to five options are easier to read and answer on a phone.
Can I see who voted in a WhatsApp poll?
Yes. The person who sent the poll can see the totals and who picked each option. That is what makes polls useful for bookings and follow-ups.
Is a WhatsApp poll better than a survey link?
For one question, yes: one tap beats opening a form. For ten questions, use a form, and send a poll first asking if the customer has a few minutes to answer it.
Next step
Pick one decision you need customers to make this month and turn it into a poll with three clear options. For the message around it, see our WhatsApp message templates. To send polls to your customers and watch the votes come in, see how Nitro works and get started, or read the full Nitro features.
Try Nitro
